Patrice Bergeron Endorses Impactful Play Of Bruins Roster Hopeful

Patrice Bergeron returned home to Quebec City on Thursday night, giving him the chance to take in familiar sights and sounds. It also afforded him the opportunity to scout the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins legend joined his former team for the trip north of the border as Boston took on the Los Angeles Kings in an exhibition matchup at the Videotron Centre.

Bergeron had a watchful eye on the Bruins in their 4-1 loss, especially when he took over the team's X account during the second period and provided his thoughts on Boston's play.

A few Bruins players on the ice stood out to Bergeron, including one forward trying to use the remaining preseason games to cement his case for a roster spot. It seems safe to say that Bergeron thinks Tyler Johnson, who is on a PTO, would make a good addition to the Bruins.

"The boys are liking the seam passes right now," Bergeron posted. "Nice chance for Tyler Johnson. Was always great competing against him, smart player."

Bergeron, who retired following the 2022-23 season after a decorated career, is well acquainted with Johnson from his playing days.

Johnson battled Bergeron during his nine seasons suiting up for the Lightning and the 5-foot-8, 185-pound forward also won two Stanley Cups with Tampa Bay. Johnson spent the last three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks and posted 32 and 31 points in back-to-back campaigns before getting a shot with the Bruins. Johnson over his 12-year career owns 193 goals and 238 assists for 431 points.

It appears the 34-year-old still has something left in his tank given his performance with the Bruins in the preseason. He entered Thursday's matchup with the Kings having registered one goal and one assist in three games while also being on the ice for five Boston goals.

It feels like Johnson, who centered the Bruins' third line against the Kings and was flanked by Trent Frederic and Justin Brazeau, has done enough to stay with Boston.

And if the Bruins need any convincing on that matter, perhaps Johnson can get Bergeron to give Boston's brass a call.
