Johnson repaying Postecoglou’s faith

Ange Postecoglou has continued to show faith in Johnson ever since the winger arrived at Spurs last year and the wide-man is now starting to vindicate his manager’s decision.

While the 23-year-old’s work off the ball has never been in doubt, he is now showcasing his quality in the final third, having found the back of the net for four consecutive matches across all competitions.

It is the perfect response by the Wales international, who reportedly decided to get off Instagram after receiving intense criticism from Spurs fans on social media last month (The Mirror).

Maddison explains Johnson’s decision

James Maddison has now revealed that deciding to come off Instagram was not a particularly big issue for Johnson, explaining that the winger is one to take breaks from social media anyway.

The England star admitted that he is over the moon that the winger has managed to turn his form around, stating that no one at Spurs ever doubted his ability.

Maddison told Football.London: “Brennan is first and foremost he’s a very good friend, I’m close with him. I think a lot has been made of him coming off social media which to him was probably not such a big thing.

“He’s the type of guy to have a break from that stuff anyway. People have maybe read too much into it too much but since then gone four in four I don’t think I’ll be telling him to redownload anytime soon.

“He’s a great kid, a brilliant player. No one has ever doubted that but he’s really showing it at the minute consistently. It’s not easy to score four games in a row. He’s a brilliant lad and a great friend of mine so I’m always there for him.”

Maddison’s cheeky social media post

Maddison decided to poke fun at Johnson on the back of his latest goal at Old Trafford, with the midfielder morphing his teammate’s face onto a picture of Brazilian Ronaldo.

When asked about that post, the Spurs vice-captain said: “That picture was a bit tongue-in-cheek. We found it funny when it was put in our group chat.

“But hopefully he can continue this form because he’s a real threat for us. He can do damage to a lot of opposition in the Premier League and Europe so I like to see him in that rich vein of form.”
