Spurs half-time player ratings vs Ferencvaros – Second best, but in the lead

0 1

Tottenham continue their Europa League journey this evening with an intense 45 minutes in Hungary against Ferencvaros.

After an impressive win in the first game of the competition against Qarabag, Spurs were looking to make it two wins from two as they try to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side suffered more than a little scare in the first half against Ferencvaros, though, with the Hungarian outfit having a goal disallowed and a number of opportunities to take the lead, but it was Spurs who struck first through Pape Matar Sarr against the run of play.

Here’s how we rated the Spurs players from the first 45 minutes, on a scale of 1-10.

Tottenham player ratings from the first half in Hungary

Guglielmo Vicario: Made an incredible point-blank save to keep the scores level early on. Has been beaten already by a looping header, but Spurs got very lucky it was ruled offside. 7.

Pedro Porro: A brilliant attacking display from the full-back, who appeared to relish pushing forward and bursting into the box. So unlucky not to be on the scoresheet after his cross-cum-shot hit the post. 7.

Cristian Romero: Very fragile from the stand-in skipper tonight. Looked shaky, lacked focus, and was clumsy with the ball, too. 4.

Archie Gray: Playing out of position, and up against it right from the start. Handled himself fairly well overall, but you can see the nerves and the uncomfortableness. 6.

Ben Davies: Has clearly been instructed to stay close and support Gray in the middle rather than getting forward. Made a couple of decent blocks when it mattered. 6.

Yves Bissouma: A little careless in possession, running into trouble a couple of times, and his passing has not been up to scratch either. Has to work harder to protect the defence. 5.

Pape Matar Sarr: Worked hard to get the ball in the box and grab his goal. Has been the main driving force in the middle of the park for Spurs, winning back the ball a number of times to turn defence into attack. 7.

Lucas Bergvall: Similar to Gray, you can see a bit of apprehension in Bergvall tonight. He’s been dispossessed a couple of times far too easily, and needs to calm down so he can dictate the game. 5.

Mikey Moore: An exciting start for the teenager, who has looked eager to take people on and make something happen. Ferencvaros must be scared, because they’ve been hacking away at him all game. 7.

Timo Werner: Has been guilty of a couple of poor touches and hasn’t really been able to impact the game on the left. Werner has even struggled to take the defender on down there, which is worrying. 5.

Will Lankshear: Battled well in the box to forge the opportunity for Sarr’s goal. Pressed with a lot of energy. Hasn’t had much in the way of service in the middle, though. 6.
