Tottenham’s top 10 transfer targets right now – October 2024

0 1

We may be a few months away from the January transfer window still, but there’s never a bad time to think about new signings. Here’s our rundown of the main transfer targets for Spurs right now.

It was a busy summer for Spurs, with almost every fringe player leaving the club either permanently or on loan as Ange Postecoglou continued to shape the squad to his liking.

We also saw the arrival of a new striker in Dominic Solanke, a new winger in Wilson Odobert, and two young talents, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.

So, what’s next? We’ve examined all the speculation, looked at the areas where the first-team squad needs improving, and thought about the profile of player Postecoglou prefers to come up with Tottenham’s top transfer targets this month.

10. Samson Baidoo

Tottenham currently have three top centre-backs in Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin. Ben Davies is Postecoglou’s fourth-choice defender at the moment, but he will no doubt be thinking about the future, with the Welshman well into his 30s now.

Apparently, the club has sent scouts to watch Red Bull Salzburg’s latest prodigy, Samson Baidoo (HITC). According to Fussball News, Manchester United are also looking at the 20-year-old.

The problem here is, Postecoglou already has Ashley Phillips developing well out on loan, and Alfie Dorrington emerging from the academy. We doubt he would want to spend money and block their path to the first-team.

Market value: £10m

Chance of signing: 35%

9. Harry Gray

Signing Archie Gray in the summer proved to be a great bit of business for Spurs, with the 18-year-old impressing in the early days of his career with the club. Now, the Lilywhites are reportedly looking to snap up his little brother, too (TBRFootball).

Harry Gray is just 15-years-old and plays as a striker for the Leeds youth team, where he scored four goals in four games for the Under-18 side last season. He’s also played for the senior time over the summer in pre-season friendlies.

Whether Spurs actually decide to sign the youngster in the next transfer window or not remains to be seen; it’s more likely they’ll wait until he’s a little older to get a better gauge on him. Either way, the fact his brother is at the club would certainly give Tottenham an edge when it comes to persuading Harry to join, too.

Chance of signing: 40%

8. Vanderson

Put simply, Tottenham need a new full-back. With the departures of Emerson Royal and Ryan Sessegnon in the summer, and Sergio Reguilon unlikely to feature again for the club, Postecoglou has to reinforce this area as a priority.

Over the summer, Vanderson was one of the top transfer targets linked with Spurs, but no deal came to fruition. He is more of a right-back, whereas the Lilywhites are lacking more severely on the left, which may be the only thing holding back a potential move.

Chelsea recently entered the race for the Brazilian and are thought to be in pole position (Caught Offside), so a January move to London could well be on the cards for the Monaco ace. Tottenham may look to challenge that interest, but Vanderson isn’t necessarily the exact player they need right now.

7. Baris Alper Yilmaz

We know Ange Postecoglou loves attacking players, and he’s likely to want to improve that area again in either January or next summer. Signing a versatile forward player who can operate out wide or through the middle is probable, and Baris Alper Yilmaz matches that profile.

He’s on fire for Galatasaray this season, and it is surely only a matter of time before the 24-year-old secures a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Spurs are thought to face competition from Brighton and Nottingham Forest for the Turkish star (CaughtOffside), and while the price tag feels apt for Tottenham’s needs, the player himself may want to sign for a club that can offer him more regular first-team football. There’s interest there, for sure, but don’t hold your breath on this deal.

Current club: Galatasaray

Market value: £20m

Chance of signing: 45%

6. Angel Gomes

Angel Gomes has caught the eye out in France with Lille since departing Manchester United as a youngster, and the midfielder is even hotter property now that he’s made his full England debut.

Manchester United are keen to take him back, but Newcastle United and Tottenham are also interested in the 24-year-old, as all three clubs look for reinforcements in the middle of the park (BBC).

So, Spurs definitely see Gomes as one of their transfer targets, but they will need to consider whether they see a new midfielder as a priority, and whether they want to get into a bidding war for one of the most sought-after young English players.

Current club: Lille

Market value: £50m

Chance of signing: 60%

5. Kyle Walker-Peters

Adding a homegrown, club-trained player to the squad would be a shrewd move by Postecoglou, and signing Kyle Walker-Peters would also help improve squad depth in both full-back areas.

It is thought the Spurs boss sees the former Tottenham defender as a good fit for his system (GiveMeSport) and the latest on Walker-Peters is that he is refusing to sign a new contract at Southampton (The Daily Echo).

Walker-Peters would be cheap, he’d likely be willing to return to Tottenham, and he would be incredibly useful to the squad in multiple ways. This definitely feels like the kind of sensible signing Spurs will look to make.

4. Viktor Gyokeres

In the summer, Spurs were linked with a whole host of strikers, Viktor Gyokeres being one of their transfer targets. They opted to sign Dominic Solanke instead, and Gyokeres has stayed with Sporting Lisbon where he is absolutely tearing it up once more in Portugal.

It’s unlikely Spurs will make a move for another striker in January, but next summer, if Richarlison leaves the club, they will no doubt look to provide proper competition and cover for Solanke. There would be no better signing than Gyokeres if that is the case.

It is thought Tottenham have been holding talks with Gyokeres’ representatives recently (TEAMtalk), but the problem is, every top club in Europe will be keen to sign him, too.

Current club: Sporting Lisbon

Market value: £85m

Chance of signing: 50%

3. Eberechi Eze

All summer, Eberechi Eze appeared to be one of Tottenham’s top transfer targets. Reports suggested personal terms would not be an issue, and that all that was left to do was for Spurs to trigger Eze’s £68m release clause.

That didn’t happen, though, most likely because Tottenham splashed the cash on Dominic Solanke. But, Fabrizio Romano has claimed Spurs still ‘appreciate’ Eze, and that release clause will be active again next summer.

There is no way Spurs — or any club, for that matter — will be signing Eze in January. But, he’ll almost certainly be on the move next summer, and Tottenham will be at the front of the queue.

Current club: Crystal Palace

Market value: £68m

Chance of signing: 65%

2. Ederson

Over the summer, it was widely reported Spurs were looking to add a new number 6 to their midfield options. The impressive start Archie Gray made at the club meant that search was called off, but there is definitely still scope to add an elite-level enforcer in the middle of the park.

One of the most exciting talents in that role right now is Ederson, who played a starring role in Atalanta’s run to the Europa League final last season. The Brazilian is aggressive, composed on the ball, and has a great dynamism and athleticism to his game.

He’s a wanted man, though. Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Barcelona are all keen, too (Fichajes). This would likely be a summer move for Spurs, and if he’s still available by then, the North London side will probably make an approach.

1. Patrick Dorgu

Signing a left-back has to be a top priority for Postecoglou, with Destiny Udogie the only recognised player in that position. Sergio Reguilon has no future at the club, and Ben Davies is more of a centre-half these days.

In the summer, it was reported that Spurs made a late swoop to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, but were priced out of a move for the Danish teenager (Gazzetta dello Sport).

Given his age, his playing style, and the fact Spurs know exactly how much his club want, we’d say there’s a very high likelihood that Dorgu could join the Lilywhites. Plus, Tottenham could use their strong networks in Italy to make sure the move goes ahead, so watch this space.

Current club: Lecce

Market value: £25m

Chance of signing: 85%
