Pundit says ‘drifter’ doesn’t have what it takes to replace Son at Tottenham

While Jamie O’Hara thinks the time is coming for Tottenham Hotspur to replace Heung-min Son, he has doubts over whether one transfer target has what it takes to fill the South Korean star’s shoes.

Son’s rusty start to the season

While Son has four goal contributions to his name in five matches, he will perhaps be the first to admit that he has not been at his best so far this season.

The 32-year-old has fallen short of the extremely high standards he has set for himself and would have been disappointed that he did not score some of the chances that came his way against Brentford.

However, the Tottenham captain certainly showed some signs of coming back into form against the Bees. Son combined really well with Dominic Solanke on Saturday and Ange Postecoglou will be confident that the forward will find his goalscoring boosts soon.

Eze as a replacement for Son?

Spurs fan Abi Summers believes that Tottenham should be looking at potential options to take over from Son and suggested that Eze might be the best person for the job.

She told talkSPORT: “Without a doubt (we have to look for a Son replacement), that’s why I said earlier about Eze, someone like that comes in and then you are seeing the difference in the two players.

“That’s not saying Son hasn’t been an unbelievable servant, but that’s just calling it for what it is where someone is at in their career.”

However, O’Hara is not sure that the England international has what it takes to step into the South Korean’s shoes.

The former Spurs midfielder responded: “I am not sure about Eze, you know. No, (I don’t think he will make Spurs better). I think he’s a drifter.”

Tottenham explored Eze move

It appears Eze has been on the Lilywhites’ radar, with reports indicating that Postecoglou’s men spoke to the 25-year-old regarding a transfer in the recent transfer window.

In fact, Football Transfers revealed recently that Tottenham even had a gentlemen’s agreement with the attacker over a move but the player changed his mind after Arsenal and Manchester City also expressed their interest.

It is asserted that Postecoglou and Johan Lange then decided to use the funds put aside for the Eagles star towards a move for Dominic Solanke instead.
