Robbie Savage shocked by what he heard about Postecoglou and Arteta

Robbie Savage cannot believe the comment Chris Sutton has made about Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou and Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta this week.

Two contrasting styles this season

Arteta has made Arsenal a more pragmatic side that plays on the counter-attack this season, with the Spaniard relying on his water-tight defence to pick up consistent results.

In stark contrast, Postecoglou’s side are even more forward-thinking than they were last season, with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski both starting together in midfield as number eights.

While Tottenham have been utterly dominant in almost all the matches they have played this season, that has not quite translated to results, with some teams taking advantage of the Lilywhites’ openness at the back.

Who would you take: Arteta or Postecoglou?

Sutton has now suggested that he would take Postecoglou over Arteta due to the style of play that the Tottenham boss delivers, with the comment leaving Savage shocked and speechless.

An Arsenal fan said on BBC 606: “Arteta has been called ‘Tony Pulis’ for what has happened at Tottenham, against Atalanta in the Champions League and at Manchester City.

“I think, because of that, Arteta is the most versatile coach in the world, at the moment. Is there anyone you would take over Arteta (apart from Pep Guardiola)?”

Sutton responded: “The way Spurs play football, Ange Postecoglou. The beautiful game.”

Savage shot back: “Ange, come on? Chris, did you just say big Ange? Wow. We have to finish it there. Seriously, big Ange over Mikel Arteta.”

The proof is in the pudding

At the moment, there cannot be any argument between the two managers, with Arteta converting Arsenal into title contenders while Spurs are still a work in progress under Postecoglou.

However, the Spaniard certainly took his time to put his imprint on the Gunners side, having led them to two back-to-back eight-place finishes in his first two seasons at the Emirates.

Postecoglou might feel that it is only fair to judge after he has had more time in the Spurs hot seat, and ultimately, we might be able to compare the two better based on what their respective sides achieve this season.
