Yago Santiago left Spurs this summer

Santiago was earmarked as a promising talent from quite a young age in Spanish footballing circles and it was seen as a real coup for Spurs when they signed him from Celta Vigo in 2019.

However, despite impressing in the youth ranks and having a couple of impressive campaigns for the Under-21s, the youngster never quite managed to force himself into the first-team at the North London club.

The winger eventually grew impatient and decided to swap Hotspur Way for Elche this summer in search of regular game time, and so far, his decision has been vindicated.

Santiago is already shining over in Spain

Santiago has started three games in the Spanish second tier so far for his new club, having found the back of the net in the 3-1 win over Cordoba.

Galicia Press say that the former Spurs man could not have had a better start to his time at the Estadio Martinez Valero Stadium, describing him as ‘one of the great sensations’ of the season so far.

The publication adds that the winger is already winning over his new fans, suggesting that he looks set to be an important player for the club this season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Santiago was a little unlucky that he was part of a generational Spurs youth side, which is brimming with talent. Otherwise, he might have got more of a chance in and around the first-team set-up.

It’s always nice to see players doing well after leaving the academy though. Well done, Yago!
