Kyle Walker was a beating heart of Pochettino’s Spurs

Walker was part of some memorable Spurs sides during his eight years in North London but his time at the club did not end in the way he would have wanted, with the right-back having a falling out with Pochettino.

There has already been a lot said and written about the circumstances that led to the defender’s £45m move to Manchester City in 2017.

In his book, ‘Brave New World‘, Pochettino revealed that he felt betrayed by Walker as the England international came to him before the end of the season when Spurs were going for the Premier League title to express his intention to leave.

White Hart Lane meant the world to Walker

However, the full-back has refuted that claim, insisting in his podcast last week that it was the Argentine who had made it clear to him that he was not part of his plans.

Walker has now shed more light on his falling out with Pochettino, revealing that he was dismayed when the former Spurs boss left him out of the final game at the Lane against Manchester United.

The 34-year-old said on the latest episode of the You’ll Never beat Kyle Walker podcast: “Tripps did really well and from that game onwards he played me one week, Tripps the other week, me one week, Tripps the other week.

“You couldn’t get a rhythm. It was so stop-start, I couldn’t get going again. But I’d worked out in my head that if I was to play on/off until the end of the season. The last game at White Hart Lane, it was against Manchester United and I wouldn’t play.

“Lo and behold it got to that game and I was on the bench. He brought me on at 84 minutes and that’s the one thing that really hurt me. Never mind what he says, that ground meant so much to me. That hurt.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One can understand the disappointment Walker would have felt, given the journey he had from a youngster to an established star at White Hart Lane.

However, at least Pochettino brought him on late on and gave him a chance to play at the stadium for one final time.
