Red Sox Understand Struggles At Plate, At Home Must Improve

The Red Sox offense went cold since the start of the All-Star break, and they know things must improve quickly in the final weeks of the season to maintain their postseason hopes.

Boston suffered its fifth straight loss after getting swept by the New York Mets on Wednesday. It returns home to face the lowly Chicago White Sox, but Alex Cora knows his side must play better to achieve their goals; the Red Sox are 31-38 at Fenway Park heading into Friday's series.

Hitting coach Pete Fatse joined Adam Pellerin and Alex Speier on NESN's "310 To Left" podcast this week to talk about the struggles of the offense which ranks top five in strikeout rate. Fatse noted how there are multiple factors contributing to Boston's struggles. Pitching is better than it's ever been and the Red Sox have a young roster.

Those problems can be rectified with a simple approach at the plate, and Fatse was confident he and the rest of the coaching staff could help get the offense back on track to come close to the level they were playing at during the first half of the season.

A confidence boost this weekend could be what the club needs with the playoffs still within reach.
