Man Utd include forgotten star and wonderkid in Europa League squad, Mainoo and Garnacho absence explained

Manchester United have confirmed their Europa League squad for the league phase of the competition.

As per UEFA regulations, the Red Devils can pick a maximum of 25 players in List A, two of whom must be goalkeepers. Eight of those should be locally trained players.

The Red Devils have now disclosed their List A squad, which includes new signings Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte.

Tyrell Malacia is also on the squad list. The 25-year-old has not played a competitive game for United since May last year with a knee issue.

United released pictures of him working out earlier this summer. Judging by his inclusion in the Europa League squad, he could make his long-awaited comeback soon.

Harry Amass is a surprise inclusion in the List A squad. Having only joined the Red Devils from Watford last year, the 17-year-old does not qualify for List B.

Europa League squad for league phase:

  • Goalkeepers: Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee.
  • Defenders: Harry Amass, Diogo Dalot, Matthijs De Ligt, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro.
  • Midfielders: Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Manuel Ugarte.
  • Forwards: Amad, Antony, Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee.

Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are absent from the main squad. United have revealed they remain eligible to be included in List B.

This can consist of an unlimited number of players born after January 1 2003 and are eligible to play for the club for an interrupted period of two or three years with a maximum of one year on loan in the same association since their 15th birthday.

Aside from Mainoo and Garnacho, Toby Collyer and Ethan Wheatley are among many graduates who can be registered.

The List B squad must be submitted at 00:00 CET (23.00 BST) on the night before the match in question in the league phase.
