Tottenham star nominated for Premier League Goal of the Month award
Tottenham Hotspur may have made an indifferent start to the Premier League season, but one player has seen his first goal of the campaign included among the nominees for the Goal of the Month for August.
Bissouma screamer makes the cut
The only win of the season so far for Spurs was a huge 4-0 thrashing of Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Heung-min Son scored two in that match, and Cristian Romero celebrated his 100th appearance for the Lilywhites with a goal, too. But, it was Yves Bissouma‘s long-range effort that caught the eye the most, and it’s now been recognised as one of the best goals of the month in the Premier League last month.
After some fine work by Dejan Kulusevski in the box, the lay-off to Bissouma on the edge of the area allowed the midfielder to hit it first time, and the ball rocketed into the top corner past Everton keeper Jordan Pickford.
That effort is joined by Mateo Kovacic’s goal against Chelsea, Jarrod Bowen’s effort against Crystal Palace, Cole Palmer’s strike against Wolves, and a Luis Diaz goal against Brentford in the Premier League selections for August.
Rounding out the picks are Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s effort against Nottingham Forest, Liam Delap’s goal against Fulham last weekend, and Yukinari Sugawara’s consolation goal in Southampton’s defeat to Brentford.
Redemption for Bissouma
That game against Everton marked an important moment for Bissouma. In the wake of an incident involving laughing gas, the midfielder had been suspended by Ange Postecoglou for the first game of the season.
He was recalled to the side for the Everton match, and repaid his manager’s faith immediately.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think Bissouma’s goal stands a genuine chance of winning this one.
For me, it’s between that and the Cole Palmer effort, which is technically brilliant. I like the Liam Delap one, too, but the keeper gets a hand to it which always spoils it a bit.
