Report: Tottenham may regret Romaine Mundle exit even more after this week

Tottenham academy graduate Romaine Mundle is now shining in the Championship with Sunderland, with the winger starting the season in fine form.

Romaine Mundle left Spurs in 2023

Mundle progressed through the various age group ranks at Spurs and had been one of the standout players for the club’s Under-21s in the 2022-23 season, finishing the campaign with eight goals and six assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

The wide-man trained with the first-team on a few occasions under Antonio Conte, with Cristian Stellini even suggesting back in April of last year that the youngster is ready to play for the senior side (Football.London).

However, he never did play for Spurs, deciding to swap Hotspur Way for Standard Liege 12 months ago.

Romaine Mundle is thriving at Sunderland

Just six months after his move to Belgium, the 21-year-old was back in England, sealing a move to the Stadium of Light in January of this year.

The former Spurs man is now impressing for the Black Cats, having been their standout player in their 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, scoring the goal that gave his side all three points.

TBR Football have revealed that on the back of his showing over the weekend, Mundle has now been named in the EFL Team of the Week.

If Mundle keeps delivering these sorts of performances, it might not be long before he follows Jack Clarke’s path and finds himself back in the Premier League.

The youngster will feel that his decision to swap Spurs for Standard Liege has worked as it is unlikely he would have got too many opportunities had he stayed at the North London club, especially given the amount of talent in the club’s Under-21 set-up at the moment.
