‘One of the worst players’ – Defender blasted weeks after leaving Tottenham

Emerson Royal is getting plenty of criticism back in Italy after the right-back struggled in AC Milan’s 2-2 draw against Lazio on Sunday.

Emerson Royal swapped Spurs for the San Siro

It is fair to say that many Spurs fans were happy to see the back of Emerson, who had failed to set the world alight in his three seasons at the North London club.

While the right-back did manage to impress for a brief period under Antonio Conte, he was evidently not a great fit for the inverted full-back role in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

All in all, the Lilywhites would have been relatively pleased to get £13m (TNT Sports) from Milan for the Brazilian, who is now looking to get his career back on track in Italy.

Emerson Royal is already coming under fire

However, it turns out that his spell at the San Siro has not got off to the best of starts with the defender struggling in the clash against Lazio on Sunday, with both of the away side’s goals coming from his side.

MilanNews did not hold back on their criticism of Emerson, handing him a rating of just 5 out of 10 and referring to him as ‘one of the worst players on the pitch’.

According to Sport Witness, the print editions of Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport were also not too kind to the former Tottenham man, with the former giving him a rating of 5 and the latter, 5.5.

Spurs Web Opinion

Many people will write off Emerson after just two games as there is this unfortunate trend on social media of treating some players as if they are a joke.

I believe the Serie A will suit the Brazilian and that he will prove his value to the Rossoneri once he is fully fit.
