European football expert tells Spurs fans what to expect from Johnny Cardoso
European football expert Andy Brassell believes that Tottenham Hotspur have been clever with their agreement over Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso, suggesting that the youngster could be ideally suited for the Premier League.
Tottenham agree option for Johnny Cardoso
Cardoso has won many admirers after breaking into the Betis side last season, with the 22-year-old now seen by many in the game as a potential star in the making.
Tottenham have a great opportunity to sign the youngster next summer, having agreed an option to buy him in 2025 while negotiating Giovani Lo Celso’s sale to Betis.
According to reports, Spurs have the option to sign the youngster for around £25.2m next summer and if they do not take up that option, they automatically get a sell-on clause for the midfielder (Football.London).
Johnny Cardoso could thrive in the Premier League
Brassell believes that the USA international has the attributes to thrive in England and suggested that he might be the right man to shield the Spurs back four.
The pundit told Sky Sports (30/08, 17:40) about the Betis star: “The interesting thing is this might help Tottenham negotiate an option, it seems, for Johnny Cardoso.
“Quite an interesting backstory, so he was born in the US to Brazilian parents but he moved back to Brazil when he was three or four months old. To all intents and purposes, he is a Brazilian player, he’s come through the system there before going over to Betis.
“Very popular, very energetic, you can imagine Cardoso working really well in the Premier League because he loves a tackle, he loves to get stuck in, so you can imagine him protecting that Tottenham defence going forward.”

It is quite premature to be looking ahead to next summer as a lot can change before then, including Cardoso himself having a potential dip or perhaps Bissouma, Bentancur and Sarr stepping up and having a great season, which would influence Tottenham’s decision on singing a number six.
