Midweek preview: Another derby date as Bassett welcome Vics

Royal Wootton Bassett Town are set for another derby on Tuesday night when newly promoted Malmesbury Victoria make the short journey to the Sustain Stadium (7.45pm kick off). Both sides currently sit on six points from six games, albeit the teams will look at their starts somewhat differently - Malmesbury being happy with their performances to date, with Bassett somewhat disappointed about how things have gone so far. The game represents the first league meeting between the sides since the back end of the 2012-13 campaign when Bassett triumphed 3-0 in what was the final Men's First Team fixture to be played at Rylands Way. Steve Robertson was Bassett's hero that day, scoring a hat trick. And he's due to feature on Tuesday too, this time for the Vics. Another change since last time is that the teams will be meeting for the first time ever in the Hellenic Premier following Malmesbury's promotion via the playoffs. All previous league encounters have been in Hellenic League Division One West. Bassett and Malmesbury have met in competitive action more recently. The teams were paired together in the group stage of the 2020-21 Hellenic League Challenge Cup. Bassett recorded a 5-1 victory in the initial fixture at the Flying Monk Ground. But Malmesbury triumphed 3-1 at the Sustain Stadium - thanks in no small part to two spectacular goals from Jack Hobson-McVeigh (now with Bassett), the first direct from a corner, the second a stunning shot from the halfway line. Admission on Tuesday is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.
