Spurs fans will love the record Alejo Veliz has just surpassed on loan at Espanyol

Loan spells don’t always work out, but two Tottenham loanees are already racking up the minutes for their new clubs after struggling for gametime last season in North London.

Bryan Gil thriving in Spain

Bryan Gil has never been able to settle at Spurs and put together a consistent run of appearances. In the three years since joining the club, he has only played 43 times for the Lilywhites, registering just 1301 minutes (Transfermarkt).

The Spaniard stayed with Tottenham last season, but only managed 12 appearances at a total of 233 minutes for Ange Postecoglou‘s side.

Now, in his new home at Girona, Gil appears to be thriving, and is getting plenty of opportunity to show what he can do.

After playing 81 minutes in his debut, a draw against Real Betis, Gil then played the full 90 minutes of a 3-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid. With 171 minutes under his belt now, there’s every chance the 23-year-old will surpass the 233 he accrued for Spurs last year within his next game.

Alejo Veliz happy with Espanyol

Meanwhile, another Spurs fringe player is faring well in Spain, as Alejo Veliz makes the most of his spell with Espanyol.

The 20-year-old played 70 minutes in the opening game of the season for his new club, and then played the full 90 against Real Sociedad at the weekend.

That 160-minute haul is already more than the entirety of last season, where Veliz racked up just 45 minutes of action for Spurs, and 31 minutes in La Liga for Sevilla.

Spurs Web Opinion

Hopefully, if Gil can keep this up, he will get a permanent move away from Spurs by the end of the season. Veliz on the other hand needs to maintain this regular game time and come back to Spurs next season ready to push for a first-team role.
