Jude Soonsup-Bell swaps Spurs for Spain

Soonsup-Bell delivered decent attacking output for Tottenham’s Under-21s side since joining the North London club from the Chelsea academy 18 months ago.

However, he was always going to struggle to break into the first-team picture at Spurs, with youngsters such as Dane Scarlett, Will Lankshear and Alejo Veliz ahead of him in the pecking order.

It thus did not come as a surprise when the 20-year-old left Tottenham last week, although a few might have been surprised by his destination, with the youngster ending up at Cordoba.

It has been reported that the Lilywhites have not got a fee for the forward but they have added a 40 per cent sell-on clause to the player, thus ensuring they will profit from any future sale (Nizaar Kinsella).

Soonsup-Bell is happy with his move to Cordoba

Soonsup-Bell has now clarified his decision to sign for Cordoba, admitting that he has had his eye on a switch to Spanish football for a while.

The departed Tottenham man told El Dia de Cordoba: “I have been interested in the Spanish league and it is an opportunity for me. I have been seeing the city and getting to know the surroundings, and I am delighted to be here.

“I’m delighted with the atmosphere in the stadium and I’m looking forward to playing. I had the opportunity two years ago to come to Spain and I saw the level of the Second Division.

“(It’s) very similar to the English Championship. The physical prevails more in England, and here the technical. Each one has a different development.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is always nice to see English youngsters being brave enough to go to a foreign league to develop rather than staying in their comfort zone.

Acclimatising to a new footballing culture will help Sonnsup-Bell mature both tactically and technically.
