Brazil legend Ronaldinho’s son Joao Mendes set for SPL move but little-known Fifa rule could scupper transfer

RONALDINHO’s son Joao Mendes is one of several young Burnley players who could be sent to DUNDEE in the closing days of the transfer window.

But Turf Moor chiefs will first have to negotiate a little-known ruling that is threatening to scupper moves to their Scottish partner club.

Joao Mendes, right, is the son of Brazil and Barcelona legend Ronaldinho

Burnley have several fringe men — including 19-year-old right-winger Mendes — who could head to their SPFL allies but they are allowed just SIX international loans.

Scotland is regarded as an international move under the regulations, so Burnley cannot commit until they see if other players are loaned to European teams.

Mendes, 19, had been in the academy at Barcelona since 2023 after a successful trial.

He started his youth career in Brazil with Cruzeiro, where he spent four years.

He then made his debut for Barcelona in a friendly match against Manchester United in February 2023.

However, he had to wait two months until his next game, which came in the Mediterranean International Cup.

He left Barcelona earlier this year after his contract came to an end and joined Burnley in the summer.

His father, Ronaldinho, was once regarded as one of the best players in the world.
