UCL giants now 'expected' to make offer to sign £40m United star - The Athletic

0 3

Juventus are expected to propose a loan deal for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho before the transfer deadline, according to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell.

Sancho had a public fall-out with manager Erik ten Hag last year and he was subsequently suspended by the club before his loan move to Borussia Dortmund in January.

The pair managed to sort out their differences in the summer, but the England international was not part of the matchday squad against Fulham due to an ear infection.

It is now reported that the Bianconeri are aiming to land two wingers this month and they have their sights on signing Fiorentina’s Nico Gonzalez as well as Sancho.

With the huge outlay required for Gonzalez (£33.9 million) and midfielder Teun Koopmeiners (£42.3m), the Turin giants can’t afford a permanent deal for Sancho as of now.

Hence, they are ‘expected’ to propose a loan move with a salary contribution.

United, meanwhile, would prefer a permanent sale for £40m, but a middle ground could be reached for a loan deal with an obligation to buy in the summer of 2025.

Sancho could head for exit door before deadline

The 24-year-old was a top target for the Bianconeri in January. The move was vetoed by manager Massimiliano Allegri, who felt Sancho would not suit his 3-5-2 formation.

However, the Serie A giants have now revived their pursuit. Sancho’s chances of joining the club have improved with the club’s appointment of Thiago Motta as the manager.

Motta operates with a regular 4-2-3-1 system which Sancho is accustomed to. Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli also ‘likes him’ and a move appears a realistic possibility.

United prefer to receive cash up front due to PSR limits, but they would not want to keep hold of an unsettled player, who could disrupt the harmony around the squad.

In our view, this saga could drag until deadline day before United sanction his exit.

Juventus are used to signing players on loan with conditional obligation clauses. They could propose something similar to recruit Sancho before next Friday’s deadline.
