Jermaine Jenas was brutally axed by Spurs

Jenas spent nearly eight years at Tottenham after arriving at the club from Newcastle United in 2005, making more than 200 appearances for the Lilywhites before he eventually departed for QPR in 2013.

The midfielder was an indispensable part of the Spurs team under both Martin Jol and Juande Ramos, and continued being a key squad player under Harry Redknapp.

However, things changed for Jenas after the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas, which coincided with him having some injury troubles, with the Portuguese coach deciding to offload the England international soon after his arrival.

The 41-year-old has now narrated the story of how his time at Spurs came to an end, revealing that his fingerprint identification was removed from the system at Hotspur Way without any notice, leaving him unable to enter the training ground.

While discussing Raheem Sterling’s fallout with Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, Jenas told talkSPORT: “Mine [Spurs departure] was bad like that. Spurs had built this brand new training facility and I was there for about six months and I thought, ‘this place is absolutely stunning, it’s beautiful’.

“But what it was, when you walked in through reception – so at this point Andre Villas-Boas had just joined the club. I did the whole pre-season. My Achilles weren’t great, I’ll be totally honest.

“So I wasn’t anywhere near my best but obviously thought I’d be given a bit of time to kind of get myself up to speed and maybe around Christmas time I could fight for my place in the team.

“I literally walked through the door, and we used to have this turnstile type thing where it had a fingerprint ID, so you put your thumb on it, it would spin through and you’d go in.

“And I put my thumb on it and it just went [error sound]. It just went red! So I went ‘oh, wipe my thumb a bit’, it just went red. I looked at the people at reception and they put their heads down, everyone just dived for cover.

“Nobody even spoke to me or pulled me to say, ‘look this is not going to be happening’ or anything like that. It was just as cutthroat as that. But that’s the way it is, unfortunately, in football it’s a business and that’s what happens!”

Jermaine Jenas has also been axed by the BBC

This interview came out just as the news broke that Jenas has been axed by the BBC for alleged ‘inappropriate behaviour’ in which he sent ‘unsolicited’ messages to junior members of staff (Sun).

Since then, multiple other women have reportedly come forward with complaints about the One Show host. Jenas said he is ‘not happy’ about the situation in an interview.
