Scare for Spurs as highly-rated teenager is forced off with a potential injury

2023/24 PL2 Top Goalscorer and Player of the Season, Will Lankshear, was in fine form against Bristol Rovers in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night, scoring in the academy’s 3-3 draw, but there was great concern when the striker was forced off injured.

Lankshear impressed Postecoglou in pre-season

19-year-old striker, Will Lankshear, set the PL2 alight last year in his first full season since joining from Sheffield United’s academy back in 2022, netting twenty-three goals in as many games and picking up the PL2 Player of the Season and Top Goalscorer award. (Premier League)

The promising forward was handed a first-team chance in pre-season, embarking on the Asia tour with Postecoglou’s squad, even netting twice across his six brief pre-season appearances.

It appears he impressed the Spurs boss too, who told Football.London: “Will was good. We kind of brought him in this last week. He’s looked bright in training. He worked hard.

“He’s had a very good year last year and it’s about rewarding him for that. It’s about coming in and making an impact. He did well and he took his goal well.”

Lankshear was forced off injured for Tottenham U21s

Despite impressing Postecoglou in the first-team, Lankshear played in attack alongside fellow promising forward, Mikey Moore, in Tottenham U21s opening EFL Trophy game against Bristol Rovers first-team.

Both Moore and Lankshear shone in an impressive 3-3 draw with the pair getting their names on the scoresheet in spectacular style.

There was late concern for Lankshear, however, as the 19-year-old was forced off in the closing stages with what appeared to be a potential hamstring issue.

Spurs Web opinion

Lankshear’s potential hamstring issue will be causing many Tottenham fans concern after the young forward’s extremely promising pre-season with the first-team.

The loans of both Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett appear to have opened up the pathway for Lankshear, likely to get minutes in cups or the Europa League. The hope must be that this injury therefore is short-term enough to allow Lankshear to play and train with the first-team in the lead-up to those competitions.
