Report: Tottenham insert a sell-on clause into latest £20m transfer

Oliver Skipp’s move to Leicester City is now official, and Alasdair Gold has shared information about the deal that suggests Tottenham could gain from the transfer financially in the future as well as in the immediate.

The club announced on Monday afternoon that Skipp had completed his move to Leicester. Negotiations for the permanent transfer of the academy graduate escalated fairly quickly over the weekend after months of rumours.

Now, Alasdair Gold has taken to social media to share more details about the transfer, and it sounds like Spurs have managed to secure a great deal for the 23-year-old.

Gold tweeted: “Spurs will get in excess of £20m for Oliver Skipp overall and I understand they also have a sell-on clause as part of the deal.”

It is unknown at this time exactly how big that sell-on clause is, but it means Tottenham will get a percentage of any transfer Leicester negotiate for Skipp in the future.

Previously, Sky Sports had claimed the deal would be an initial £20m with a further £5m in add-ons.

Skipp bids farewell to boyhood club

Skipp came through the Spurs academy, supported the club all his life, and made over 100 appearances for the Lilywhites.

Taking to social media after completing the move to Leicester, Skipp spoke of his ‘special memories’ during his time with the club, described playing for the club as an ‘honour and a privilege’, and promised to return as a fan one day.

Getting a sell-on clause in this deal is very smart, as you never know whether Leicester will even stay up this season.

If they go down, Skipp would probably want to move on and the club would probably have to sell anyway. It’s a terrific deal all around, and offers us pure profit for FFP purposes, too.
