Tottenham’s squad rebuild continues

The club have confirmed in a post on their official website that Oliver Skipp has completed his move to Leicester City.

Skipp will now link up with his former Spurs team-mate Harry Winks, who made the same move to the King Power Stadium last summer.

The England Under-21 international made his Tottenham first-team debut in October 2018 under the management of Mauricio Pochettino and has gone on to make 77 Premier League appearances, including 21 last season.

The player had been said to be keen to secure a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to play regular first-team football (Irish News).

Jose Mourinho marked him out as a future Spurs captain when Skipp signed a five-year deal in April 2022 (Evening Standard).

Spurs will profit in the region of £25m from Skipp sale

Sky Sports reported on Sunday that the transfer deal will see Spurs pocket a £20m fee with a further £5m in add-ons for the 23-year-old.

The midfielder had already said his goodbyes to the Tottenham first-team squad at the weekend ahead of the match between Spurs and his new club.

Skipp’s chances of game time took a further blow when Spurs brought in two new central midfielders this summer with the arrival of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.

He has become Leicester’s seventh signing of the summer under new boss Steve Cooper.

For a player who joined the Tottenham academy at the age of six, it is sad to see Skipp depart considering he is one of our own, however, it is in the best interests of both the club and the player to see him head out of the door.

Unfortunately, Skipp who spent a season on loan in the Championship at Norwich in 2020-21 has been unable to show signs of progression to become a first-team regular and will now look to take the next step in his career at Leicester.
