NFL Rumors: Ex-Patriots Star Stephon Gilmore Agrees To Join NFC Team

Stephon Gilmore is taking his talents to a fifth team in five years.

The veteran cornerback has agreed to join the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal, as first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday morning. Gilmore will receive up to $10 million on the one-year deal with $7 million guaranteed, per Schefter.

Gilmore, who enters his age-34 season, was viewed as one of the best-available free agents still on the open market. He started 17 games for the Dallas Cowboys during the 2023 campaign after he played for the Indianapolis Colts in 2022 and Carolina Panthers in 2021.

Gilmore spent four-plus seasons with the New England Patriots before the 2019 Defensive Player of he Year was traded by then-head coach Bill Belichick midway through the 2021 campaign.

Gilmore told NESN.com in mid-June he wanted to remain patient in free agency. At the time, he said he would be interested in a return to the Patriots, but had not heard from the Patriots organization.

He now will reunite with former Patriots defensive assistant Brian Flores, who was on the staff when New England won Super Bowl LIII. Flores is the defensive coordinator for the Vikings.
