‘Tottenham were already aware’ – Romano gives update on Richarlison situation

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Richarlison’s statement about wanting to remain at Tottenham did not come as a surprise to the North London club, who were very much aware that the striker did not want to leave.

According to various reports, Tottenham have now struck a full agreement with Bournemouth over the transfer of Dominic Solanke, who has also agreed personal terms ahead of the transfer (David Ornstein).

It has been revealed by Spurs insider Paul O’Keefe, the guaranteed portion of the fee is £57m while there is also a further £3m in add-ons, with £30m of that amount being paid upfront.

Various outlets have continued to suggest that Spurs are expected to fund this move by cashing in on Richarlison (Football Insider).

However, the former Everton man made it clear earlier this week that he has already turned down a lucrative offer to move to Saudi Arabia and that he plans to remain in the Premier League (ESPN).

Spurs knew about Richarlison’s intentions

Romano has now said that Spurs were always aware of Richarlison’s intention, with a move for Solanke never being dependent on the Brazilian’s departure.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “There are no changes to Tottenham’s plans on signing Dominic Solanke, despite Richarlison wanting to stay. Solanke remains the priority target.

“Richarlison is fully focused on Spurs and Tottenham were already aware of this so his situation doesn’t change the plan to bring in more players.”

I do not think Ange would have been too keen on getting rid of Richarlison anyway.

It would not have been easy to upgrade the Brazilian as when he is fit and firing, he is a top-class player and a very good fit for our style of play.

The potential arrival of Solanke may even bring the best out of the 27-year-old.
