Tottenham are close to signing Solanke

Reports this morning from the likes of Duncan Castles (The Transfer Podcast) and David Ornstien (The Athletic) revealed that Tottenham have agreed a deal with Bournemouth for the signing of Solanke.

Gary Jacob then reported that Spurs will pay a total of £60m for the English striker, £5m less than his full release clause this summer.

Spurs insider, Paul O’Keefe, gave a little more detail, revealing that the fee is £57m with another £3m in add-ons, but Tottenham will have to pay £30m of that upfront.

Postecoglou remains tight-lipped on Solanke

As is often the case until Tottenham officially announce a player, Ange Postecoglou decided to remain tight-lipped when asked about the Solanke rumours in his press conference today.

However, he did seem to hint in a round-about way that Spurs are working on the deal.

He said (Fabrizio Romano): “I can only say that we are trying hard to get the right kind of players into that area.”

Football London later added some extra quotes in which Postecoglou said: “I don’t think we have been looking to replace Harry [Kane]. You can’t really replace a generational player.

“It’s fair to say that’s an area of the park, the front third, that we are looking to reinforce. We are trying hard to get the right kind of players into that area.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Hopefully, this deal can get done in the next couple of days to give Solanke a full week of training before the first game of the season.

You would expect him to be thrown in at the deep end, with Richarlison still not back from injury.
