How Jacoby Brissett Felt About First Patriots Offensive Series

Jacoby Brissett played just one series in the Patriots' first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night at Gillett Stadium.

The veteran quarterback went 0-for-3 from the pocket before giving the ball to rookie Drake Maye for New England's second drive of the night. However, results were not the priority for Brissett.

"The main thing was the operation," Brissett told WBZ's Steve Burton after his only drive of the game. "Calling the play, getting up to the huddle, getting the snap, getting some plays ran. Obviously, we want to go down there and score, but I think operation and communication was our main objective and I think we did that."

The Patriots rolled with an offensive line of Veridian Lowe, Sidy Sow, David Andrews and Chukwuma Okorafor. Brissett said he has complete confidence in the players in front of him.

"Oh, I'm excited," Brissett said. "Nobody was nearby, so I got a chance to look at both sides of the field, which is rare in that protection. I'm excited for those guys, and for what they can show. They've had a good training camp."

Maye completed two passes for 19 yards in his lone drive in his first game for the Patriots. Bailey Zappe took the bulk of the snaps in the first half, completing 12-of-20 attempts for 108 yards. He was sacked twice in the game for a loss of 20 yards.

The Patriots led the Panthers 7-0 at the half with Kevin Harris completing the 31-yard, five-play drive with his first preseason touchdown.
