Brennan Johnson reveals something that may surprise people about Heung-min Son
Brennan Johnson has lauded the leadership of Tottenham captain Heung-Min Son in a recent interview, suggesting that the South Korean is perhaps more vocal than most people may think.
Son was appointed Spurs captain last season
One of the many tasks that Postecoglou was handed almost immediately after his arrival was appointing a new club captain after Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane neared exits.
Spurs’ new Australian manager decided to reward then-31-year-old Heung-Min Son for his eight years of outstanding service to the club, handing the Korean forward the armband ahead of the 2023/24 season, with Cristian Romero and James Maddison taking up the responsibilities of vice-captaincy.
Son returned to form after his dismal 2022/23 season, netting seventeen league goals and setting up a further ten (TransferMarkt).
There were, however, concerns from fans that Son had been handed the armband purely due to his quality and that the forward didn’t possess stern leadership qualities. Brennan Johnson has since batted away such ideas.
Johnson has been impressed with Son as a captain
Johnson has only ever experienced Son as Spurs’ captain but applauded the 32-year-old for not only how he has welcomed him to the club, but the way he has led the squad too.
Johnson said: “Everyone definitely loves him [Son]. He’s a great person and as a leader, he’s actually a bit louder than most people think. He’s also definitely a leader in how he plays, everyone has full respect for his career and how much of a great player he is.
“Also, in terms of talking in the changing room, day to day, he’s really good at that, so I think he makes a really good captain!” (ThatsFootballTV)

It’s encouraging to hear that Johnson, as are the rest of the squad, inferring by the Welshman’s quotes, are enthused by Son’s leadership.
It does however only increase the importance upon reinforcing the Spurs attack immediately and finding a replacement for Heung-Min Son, as painful as it may be. The star is 32 years old now and his leadership, quality and goalscoring ability will need replacing sooner rather than later.
