Any Progress On Matthew Judon Contract? Patriots Star Weighs In

Matthew Judon participated in each of the last four New England Patriots training camp practices. But that isn't necessarily because Judon feels a revised contract is imminent.

Judon spoke to reporters at Gillette Stadium on Monday, doing so for the first time since he walked out of practice last week and missed the next day's session.

Judon deflected when asked if he felt there was progress being made. He put it back on New England's decision-makers including executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf.

"You got to talk to them, man," Judon told reporters. "Like I told y'all before, I would pay myself and we would never talk about it. But it's not up to me."

Judon, who is going into the final year of his deal, is set to earn a base salary of $6.5 million in 2024. He thinks he is deserving of more.

"I told y'all I wanted to stay here for the rest of my career. Obviously, that would equal more (years)," Judon said. "But I only got one year left so I think the more years become the more money, that's usually how a contract works. But it's not up to me, y'all. I be telling y'all, they (Patriots executives) come out here every day, y'all just don't ask them questions."

Judon said he will play on his current contract.

"I've got to play," Judon said. "I didn't say nothing about practice. I got to go out there and play, I got to play the game. I got to do what I'm contracted, obligated to do so I don't lose my money."

Judon and the Patriots will return to practice Tuesday ahead of their preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday.
