Former Red Sox First-Rounder Emerges With Power Surge

While Roman Anthony emerged as the top player from the 2022 MLB Draft in the Boston Red Sox system, the franchise's first round selection is starting to put it together in his second full season in the system.

Mikey Romero came to the Red Sox as the No. 24 overall pick and had success in a small sample size that summer. Injuries limited his time on the field in 2023 before returning to High-A Greenville for this season.

In recent weeks, the 20-year-old appears to have found his swing, particular in the power department in the Red Sox system.

Romero smashed his fifth home run in a week on Sunday afternoon for the Drive, this time going to the opposite field. That marks double-digit homers for the first time in Romero's pro career.

The Red Sox prospect is completely on a tear over the last month. He took off in July, hitting .354 with a 1.163 OPS.

Romero contributed a big moment earlier in the week, going back-to-back-to back with Jhostynxon Garcia and Miguel Bleis. With several prospects in the system on the rise this summer, Romero keeps growing into his potential in a positive development for Boston.
