Journalist thinks Spurs could sell one star for big money if they really want to

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has suggested that Tottenham could sell Richarlison for £60m this summer if they really wanted to, but it makes little sense unless they can find a better replacement.

Reports continue to suggest that Tottenham are prioritising signing a top-class centre-forward before the start of the new season.

The latest such claim was made on Sunday by The Mirror, who asserted that the Lilywhites are now considering pushing ahead with a move for Ivan Toney.

The report claimed that Brentford wanted a whopping £80m for their star man at the start of the window but are now prepared to accept a lower fee as they do not want to run the risk of losing the 28-year-old on a free transfer next year.

The publication asserted that in order for Spurs to be able to afford the England international, they would first have to cash in on Richarlison.

Spurs could feasibly sell Richarlison for £60m

However, Pitt-Brooke has now suggested that Spurs might be reluctant to let the Brazilian go as they may not be able to sign an upgrade.

The journalist said on View From The Lane podcast: “There’s been a lot of interest in Richarlison from Saudi Arabia, I feel like if Spurs want to sell him for £60 million, they probably can do. But that is only worth doing if you can go into the market and get a better replacement than Richarlison.

“And we can argue whether Richarlison has paid back his £50 million initial fee from Everton, I think probably not really on balance so far, but he had that run where he scored nine in 11 in December and January last year.”

The issue with Richarlison is not his ability as he has shown that he can be the ideal fit to lead the line in Ange’s system when he is fit and firing.

However, his fitness is the major concern as the 27-year-old seems incapable of staying fit for a full season.
