Match Reports

Over 35s

On Sunday, we traveled to the windy city of Myrtleford. The initial view of the field as we jogged out of the change rooms was a wet, muddy swamp. The team was still on a high from their remarkable win during the week. Unfortunately, we found the conditions didn’t complement our normal quick and skillful style of play. We kept getting bogged down in the mud, making it very difficult to keep control of the ball.

There were some highlights, though. Bonners found himself free at the back post from a nice switch of play. He only had the keeper and a soggy puddle to beat. The ball flew past the keeper to land right in the muddy puddle, but luckily it had enough momentum to trickle over the line. Our second goal was scored by Scotty, who also slotted one at the back post. The ball took a deflection across the face of the goal, and in true Scotty form, he wasn’t pulling out of this opportunity and smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Our lesser highlights came from Myrtleford’s two goals and T-Bone’s red card. We’re still shaking our heads over that one. By far, the most excitement came when our center back Loz went for his notorious run through the midfield, trying to confuse their defense and ours. This was our last-ditch effort to win this scrappy game of football. A brilliant through ball split their defense, and Loz ran onto goal to put us in front. What happened next, nobody expected, nor were they surprised. Loz found himself stuck in the biggest muddy bog hole on the field, lost all momentum, lost traction, and fell face-first into the slosh.

The game ended with a 2-2 draw, which was not the result we were hoping for, but we look forward to the next game to find that winning feeling again.

Over 45s Men

Hotspurs v Boomers Won 5-0.
After a scheduled 2-week break & a washout game we were itching to hit the pitch again.
We controlled the ball for much of the game & the scoreline shows this.
3 nil at half time & we reminded ourselves this was not to be a repeat of our last encounter.
With 2 goals each to Brodes & Foxy & 1 goal to Laurie this was very much a team effort.
A comprehensive win for us which has boosted our confidence going forward.
