Man Utd have now decided to keep 'brilliant' star, he won't be leaving - Sky Sports reporter

0 1

Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire won’t be leaving the club this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy.

The England international was heavily linked with an exit last summer, but he turned down interest from West Ham United to stay with the Red Devils.

The 31-year-old was on the bench at the start of the season, but he soon became a key figure with the continuous injury setbacks for Lisandro Martinez.

Maguire’s campaign ended on a sour note after failing to recover from a calf injury, but it seems he has done enough to continue with the club next term.

Speaking to The United Stand, Reddy confirmed that Maguire won’t be heading for the exit door before the summer transfer window closes on August 30.

She said: “One person we know won’t be leaving is Harry Maguire.”

Maguire set to continue with United next season

The former Leicester City star faced a mixed reception from the fans last summer, but he managed to win over the majority of them with his performances.

United manager Erik ten Hag was also pleased with his form and brilliant attitude and we are not surprised that he will be staying for another season.

Maguire’s contract expires in June 2025, but the club have the option to extend for another year.

There is a possibility that the Red Devils could trigger the clause. In that way, they could recoup a reasonable fee from his sale in the summer of 2025.

Maguire, who was described as ‘brilliant‘ by Alan Shearer back in February, will be eyeing more pre-season minutes under his belt against Real Betis this week.

He could have a new central defensive partner in the starting XI. Leny Yoro picked up an injury against Arsenal last weekend. The club are yet to provide an update.
