Craig Breslow Reveals Red Sox’s Plan For MLB Trade Deadline

Craig Breslow had made it clear he was going to “pick a lane” for the Red Sox and lead the club with conviction into the MLB trade deadline.

There were signs of which way Breslow was leaning, but on Wednesday afternoon, Boston’s chief baseball officer bluntly revealed which way he was driving the car.

“At some point, we need to stop with the stupid analogies and put the turn signal on,” Breslow told reporters in Colorado, per The Boston Globe. “We’ve played really good baseball for the last few months. We’ve put ourselves in this position where we’re going to look to improve the team. That’s where we would want to be.

“I think everybody who takes this job does so with an eye on being in a place where not only can you add to the team but it’s the right decision. We obviously have to be mindful of the future. In a perfect world, we can improve our 2024 team and also our ’25 and beyond. That’s my job. But I think as things stand right now, we’re looking for ways to improve the club.”

Breslow even delved into specifics, noting the Red Sox are “definitely looking for pitching” ahead of the July 30 deadline. The 2013 World Series champion also added that acquiring a right-handed bat “would be something that we would want to do.”

So, Boston’s front office will be hard at work until next Tuesday when the trading window closes. So will Alex Cora’s players, who will try to bounce back from their rough West Coast road trip starting Friday night when they begin a three-game series with the rival New York Yankees at Fenway Park.
