Big crowd expected for league opener

0 2

IT looks like being a bumper crowd to kick-off the new JD Cymru League campaign when the Seagulls take on Bangor 1876 at the 4 Crosses Arena on Friday evening (July 26th, 7:45pm kick-off).

Local interest should be high for the first competitive fixture for new management duo Mike Wilde and Danny Harrison’s revamped Bay side, and Bangor are expecting to bring a big following for what their manager Michael Johnson has described as “a huge occasion” for his side.

Bangor have had impressive wins over FC United of Manchester and City of Liverpool in their pre-season build-up, but were beaten 2-1 at Ruthin Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup last weekend.

The manager was critical of his side’s performance in that game, but said they will be working hard this week to correct that and to eradicate individual errors which proved costly in their early exit from the cup competition.

Seagulls boss Mike Wilde commented: “We know it’s going to be a tough game against Bangor. We went to watch them last week and they’ve got plenty of strengths, so we’ll need to be on our metal to beat them and get us off to a really good start.”

With a new management and new players coming in, Mike added: “We’ve had to cram a lot into a short space of time, but we feel we’re in a good place for the start of the season.”

The fans, of course, could play a big part , and the manager said: “We are so lucky that the fan base at Colwyn Bay is so big, which is something that attracted me and Danny to come to the club, and we can’t wait to hear them get behind us on Friday.”
