Heung-min Son says one ‘special’ Tottenham player is like a ‘family member’ to him
Tottenham Hotspur club captain Heung-Min-Son has heaped praise on his close friend and teammate, Ben Davies, on the tenth anniversary of the Welsh international joining Spurs.
Davies’ ten years at Tottenham
Nicknamed Mr Reliable, Ben Davies has always stepped up when his club have needed him. He is currently Tottenham’s longest-serving player and has made 330 appearances since being signed in £10m deal from Swansea City (Tottenham Hotspur).
Davies played as a left-back and a centre-back last season, appearing 19 times in all club competitions. He also recently finished a two-year coaching course at the Tottenham Hotspur Academy, earning his UEFA A licence (FAW).
With his season finishing early due to a calf injury sustained in the North London derby back in April (Reuters), and with Wales failing to qualify for the Euros, Davies will be eager to return to the pitch to get his eleventh season at Spurs underway.
Heung-min Son heaps praise on Ben Davies
Son has praised his long-term teammate as far more than just a colleague, as Tottenham took to X (Twitter) this afternoon to celebrate Davies’ decade-long spell at the club.
Sonny said: “I’ve been at clubs where I’ve been close to players, but Ben has been really special, next level. I would say he’s my family member, someone I can really trust.
“I’m Godfather to Ben’s son, Ralph…Ben invited me into his family in an amazing way. To be Godfather…I’ve never felt like this, even though it’s not my son, I was getting emotional, and I was so grateful that Ben thought of me in that way.
“On the pitch, Ben is so consistent, never complains, works so hard, plays for the team. He’s a consummate professional, a player everyone can look up to.”

It is good to hear the captain pay tribute to Davies. The Welshman has never been one of Tottenham’s standout players, but he has always given 100 per cent and has remained a loyal servant to the club. That can be sometimes forgotten by supporters.
Whether he plays on the left or covers in central defence, Davies has plenty of experience to offer and he is a solid squad player the club can continue to depend on when he is needed.
