‘Thank you mate’ – Spurs player sends message to team-mate over change of squad number
Tottenham Hotspur yesterday announced a couple of changes to their first team squad numbers ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Guglielmo Vicario is Tottenham’s number one, literally
Hugo Lloris‘ departure from North London to join LAFC after 11 years at the club saw his number one shirt become available.
Ironically, Guglielmo Vicario, who was Tottenham’s number one last season in all but the number on his back instead sported the number 13 squad number.
Vicaro has now taken up the option to claim the number one jersey which left his previous number vacant.
Destiny Udogie, who wore number 38 last season in his impressive maiden campaign at Tottenham has jumped at the opportunity to claim the number 13 squad number left by his compatriot.
Udogie shows his appreciation to Vicario
Udogie took to his Instagram story on Monday (22/7/24) to thank Vicario for allowing him to take his former squad number.
The left-back who missed the end of the season, along with Italy’s Euro 2024 campaign added a photo of Vicaro along with the caption ‘Thank you mate 13’.
Despite his absence in pre-season matches to date, Udogie was named in the Tottenham tour party for flight to Japan yesterday, while Vicario who has just returned to the club after his involvement with Italy was also onboard (Spurs official).
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s loan switch to Marseille with an obligation to make the move permanent has also seen the number five become available ahead of the new season.

Udogie wore the number 13 on his back at Udinese, which makes sense as to why he has jumped at the opportunity rather than bide his time for Sergio Reguilon to vacate the number 3 shirt.
Hopefully, there will be other numbers which become available including that of Bryan Gil, who is said to be on the radar of Girona.
