Report: Tottenham midfielder has already undergone medical ahead of loan exit

The Tottenham Hotspur academy has started to produce a steady conveyor belt of talent over the past year which looks promising for the future of the club.

Breaking into the Tottenham first-team squad is certainly not an easy task for an academy player, let alone a signing from another club.

While the likes of Mikey Moore and Jamie Donley were handed their Premier League debuts by Ange Postecoglou, many others are knocking on the door to be considered to make the step up including Tyrese Hall, Will Lankshear and George Abbott.

Matthew Craig already has one Premier League appearance under his belt when he was handed a late cameo by interim boss Ryan Mason on the final day of the 2022/23 season at Leeds United.

The midfielder joined Doncaster Rovers on loan in January of last year to get a regular taste of first-team football and helped the League Two side to reach the play-offs, only to suffer a penalty shoot-out defeat at the hands of Crewe Alexandra.

Matthew Craig is set for loan move to Barnsley

Craig looks set to head out on loan again this summer with Barnsley said to be keen on giving the 21-year-old the chance to play in League One (Football Insider).

The report claims that Barnsley have moved quickly to secure the services of the highly-rated youngster, who was also wanted by other clubs and has already undergone his medical.

A step up to League One will certainly help to advance Craig’s footballing experience after having a taste of League Two last season.

Given the intense competition for places at Tottenham and the varying standard of Premier League 2 football, another loan move is certainly the best decision for his future.
