Southampton Could Be At Risk Of Losing Defensive Talent, Attracting Interest

Southampton are at risk of losing talented teen defender Jayden Meghoma as he is attracting attention from several sides abroad, according to the Athletic.

 

The 18-year-old left-back is highly rated at St Mary’s, but has found pushing his way into the first team mix to be difficult.

 

Meghoma only managed three FA Cup outings and one EFL Cup appearance for Southampton’s first team across the course of last season.

 

 

He is keen to make sure he is playing on a more regular basis and has just a year left on his Saints contract, putting him in a strong position to influence his future this summer.

 

Meghoma is attracting attention from several clubs abroad and if Saints do not sell, he could pen a pre-contract agreement with one of them as soon as January.

 

 

The defender was left out of Southampton’s pre-season trip to Spain and has three left-backs ahead of him in the pecking order.

 

Meghoma is an England Under-18 international and played in several friendlies for the young Three Lions last term.

 

 

He was an unused substitute for Southampton in the Championship on five occasions last term.
