'Last season was not good': Erik ten Hag has sent warning to 24yo Man Utd star - View

0 2

Manchester United have been active during the summer transfer window and they have already made a couple of signings this month.

Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro have been brought in to bolster the centre-forward and central defensive positions. Manager Erik ten Hag will likely want more signings before the transfer deadline.

Alongside new arrivals, there could be more departures. Antony has been linked with a possible loan exit, but Ten Hag has faith in him.

Speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, Ten Hag has said that he is still convinced that the Brazilian has the potential to play for United.

However, he acknowledged that the former Ajax attacker had a poor second season where he scored a solitary Premier League goal.

He said: “I am still convinced that Antony has the potential to play at this club. He certainly showed that potential in the first month: he scored three times in his first three games. After that it became more difficult, last season was not good.”

Ten Hag has sent warning to Antony with his comments

The Dutch tactician has been supportive of Antony over the past two years where he has struggled to live up to the huge £86 million price tag.

He has registered just 11 goals and five assists from 82 appearances. As a result, he is no longer assured a starting role on the right wing.

Alejandro Garnacho was regularly preferred ahead of him earlier this year. Antony also faces competition from the ever-improving Amad.

Hence, the 24-year-old will have to earn back his starting spot. Ten Hag has sent him a warning by highlighting last season’s displays.

Antony will stay at United this summer as per his agent, but it could be a make-or-break campaign. He could be sold if he can’t turnaround his fortunes next term.
