A Tribute to Robbie Hunter

0 3

Everyone connected with Raith Rovers FC was saddened to hear of the recent passing of lifelong Rovers supporter Robbie Hunter.

Robbie died suddenly in Victoria Hospital on Friday 28th June.  His funeral took place on Wednesday 10th July in Freuchie Parish Church, conducted by Rev Jeff Martin followed by a burial in Falkland Cemetery.

Robbie attended every home game, enjoying a drink in the Jim McMillan Club, then always taking his seat in the main stand 30 minutes before kick-off in order to watch the warmup.

Robbie had mainly worked abroad since 1970 and came back to work in UK in 1984. During his time abroad he had played football regularly as a goalkeeper. He contacted the Rovers and persuaded them to give him a trial.  Two weeks which he said was fantastic. Suffice to say he continued in his day job.

Robbie returned to Fife in 2004 to take over as owner/landlord of the Albert Tavern in Freuchie which he was still running until his untimely passing.

A collection of over £600 was raised for The Raith Rovers Community Foundation for which everyone will be truly grateful.

Robbie will be missed by everyone who knew him especially the Jim McMillan Club.
