Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has a big season ahead with the club following his outstanding Copa America campaign with Argentina.

The 26-year-old had a difficult 2023/24 season with the Red Devils. He was sidelined with three different injuries, making only 14 appearances in all competitions.

However, Martinez played a key role in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City. He went on to shine for Argentina, starting in five of their six games at Copa America.

The Red Devils star did not concede a single goal in the 468 minutes he was on the pitch.

He scored his maiden international goal in the quarter-final against Ecuador. It proved crucial in the end as Ecuador took the game to penalties with a stoppage time equaliser.

Aside from his solitary goal, Martinez had a passing accuracy of 92 percent at the tournament. He made 2.6 clearances per game alongside 2.2 recoveries and 1.2 tackles.

Martinez required attention to his left foot in the final after Colombia forward Jhon Cordoba caught him, but he was able to continue playing for the entire 120 minutes.

The former Ajax star has been unlucky with injury concerns in his short United career, but he managed to come out unscathed during the tournament in the United States.

That is good news for the Red Devils going forward. The £38 million-rated star has plenty to prove despite becoming a fan favourite and next season could be a big one for him.

Martinez is currently on vacation after his international exploits, but he could return to training early next month.

He will be determined to make the starting line-up for the Community Shield game against Manchester City scheduled to be played at the Wembley Stadium on August 10.
