Celtics’ Jayson Tatum Reveals Unsurprising Joe Mazzulla Offseason Detail

0 12

The Boston Celtics are still on cloud nine after winning the NBA championship, but there’s one member of the team who fans shouldn’t be surprised isn’t staying complacent.

Jayson Tatum was in full victory lap mode when he arrived in Las Vegas for Team USA’s preparation for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The newly extended superstar is using his NBA title for clout over his ringless teammates on the national team.

However, before Tatum signed his supermax extension Saturday, he revealed there was already talk about next season.

“Joe (Mazzulla) was already trying to draw up (expletive) for next season,” Tatum told reporters Monday, per The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach. “I was like, ‘Joe, (expletive) that. We just won the championship, like, enjoy it and relax. We’re not worried about any sets that you’re trying to put in right now.’ We had a good laugh about it, because he’s just so driven, which we all are, but it’s like, man, we worked so hard for this, we’ve got to enjoy it.”

There’s certainly merit in Tatum’s argument. While the Celtics are the favorite for a repeat run, anything can happen and another title is not guaranteed. But it is that fact that Mazzulla likely has in mind, and it’s clear the other contenders in the Eastern Conference aren’t going to let Boston roll them over so easily.
