Report: Arsenal have one big advantage in the race for Spurs-linked defender
As Arsenal step up their pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that the Gunners enjoy a very good relationship with Bologna.
The race for Riccardo Calafiori is heating up
Calafiori already had a long list of admirers on the back of his impressive showing in Serie A last season and that list has only grown on the back of the centre-back’s solid displays at the Euros for Italy.
The 22-year-old centre-back, who is also capable of operating as a left-back, has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs all summer (La Gazzetta dello Sport).
However, over recent days, Ange Postecoglou’s men appear to have cooled their interest, with reports indicating that it is their London rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea, who are battling it out for the defender (90 min).
Arsenal push ahead with move for Calafiori
Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that the Gunners are set to accelerate talks over a deal to sign Calafiori.
He explains that one thing that could work to the advantage of Mikel Arteta’s men is that they have forged an excellent relationship with Bologna, having signed Takehiro Tomiyasu from the Serie A club in the past.
The journalist adds that it would take an offer of around €50m (£42.3m) to prise the Italy international away from Renato Dall’Ara Stadium.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is quite understandable why Spurs have stepped up away from the deal, given Bologna’s asking price.
It would not make much sense to spend over £40m to sign a centre-back while additions at centre-forward and midfield are bigger priorities at the moment.
