Spurs receive a ‘verbal offer’ from English club for 26-year-old – Alasdair Gold
Alasdair Gold claims Tottenham have received a verbal offer from Ipswich Town for central defender Joe Rodon, who spent last season out on loan at Leeds United.
Joe Rodon looks set to leave Tottenham this summer
Football Insider reported this month that not only are Leeds United keen on retaining the services of Joe Rodon this summer, but all three promoted clubs are also keeping an eye on him.
Ipswich Town, Southampton and Leicester City all hold an interest in the 26-year-old centre-back, who Tottenham are prepared to sell over the next month or so.
However, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported this week that Leeds may have a trump card to play in Gretar Steinsson, who served as Tottenham’s Performance Manager before moving to Leeds and overseeing the loan signing of Rodon.
Ipswich make the first move for Joe Rodon
It seems Ipswich Town are the first club to blink in the Rodon race, with Alasdair Gold reporting that they have made a verbal offer to Tottenham.
However, the journalist was keen to point out that the offer was not ‘formal’ or ‘in writing’ yet, and he did not reveal whether Spurs were impressed by the quoted figure.
Although Rodon is surplus to requirements in North London, Tottenham did trigger the option to extend his contract by a further year this summer, likely in order to maximise the price they can get for him (Football.London).
Gold tweeted: ‘Understand Spurs have received a verbal offer for Joe Rodon from Ipswich. Nothing formal or submitted in writing yet.
‘As I reported before, Leicester and Leeds are also after the Wales defender, who is currently abroad at a training camp ahead of the new season.’
Spurs Web Opinion:
I think Rodon is definitely a Premier League level player so I expect him to move to a promoted club this summer.
Leicester feels like the best long-term move for him, in terms of finding a club who have the potential to remain in the top flight for years to come.
