Report: Spurs face competition from Saudi club to sign prolific striker

Tottenham might not have things their own way in their pursuit of Jonathan David, with reports now emerging that Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli are plotting a move for the Lille star.

Many sources have reported over the last few days that Tottenham hold a serious interest in David, who is thought to be available for a cut-price fee after entering the final year of his contract with Lille (Football.London).

It was reported by Football Insider on Monday that Spurs had already reached out to the striker’s representatives over a potential summer switch to N17.

The report named the Lilywhites and Chelsea as the two leading contenders for the player’s signature, with the Blues also said to have spoken to the 24-year-old’s entourage.

In addition to those two sides, some sources have suggested over the last few days that the Lille star is also on the radars of both West Ham and Man Utd (BBC Sport).

Saudi interest in Jonathan David

It now turns out that Spurs might also have to see off competition from the Middle East to land David this summer.

Sports Zone are now reporting that Al-Ahli are keen to bolster their forward line before the new campaign and are ready to press ahead with a move for the Canadian international.

In fact, the publication adds that the Saudi Pro League side have made David one of ‘their priorities’ this summer, knowing that Lille would have to cash in on the player to offset their losses.

Tottenham and the other Premier League suitors would be hoping that David would not want to move to the Saudi league at this stage of his career.

However, Al-Ahli are well capable of making a contract offer that the 24-year-old cannot refuse.
