Fabrizio Romano says Man United could make another move for Spurs target

Fabrizio Romano says that Manchester United have not yet abandoned their pursuit of Tottenham target Jarrad Branthwaite despite Everton turning down their opening offer for the centre-back.

Spurs and Man United both linked with Jarrad Branthwaite

Man Utd and Tottenham are the two clubs who have been mooted as potential destinations for Brathwaite this summer on the back of his impressive debut Premier League season.

The Daily Mail were one of several outlets who have stated over recent months that Everton were bracing themselves for offers for the 21-year-old as Spurs and the Red Devils circled over the defender.

However, it was revealed by journalist Dharmesh Sheth on Sky Sports last week that the Red Devils were ready to abandon their pursuit of Branthwaite after seeing their opening offer of £35m plus £8m in add-ons being turned down by Sean Dyhce’s men.

Just a few days ago, former Tottenham right-back Alan Hutton told Football Insider that his sources at Spurs had informed him that Ange Postecoglou’s men could make a surprise move for the Toffees youngster over the coming weeks.

Man United could return with another Branthwaite bid

Romano has now offered an update on Branthwaite’s future, stating that Man Utd will hold international discussions about a move for the player and revealing that the England international wants to make a switch to Old Trafford this summer.

The journalist has told GiveMeSport: “This upcoming week, Manchester United internally will discuss again about what they want to do with Jarrad Branthwaite. The player keeps waiting for Manchester United.

“He keeps believing that Manchester United is a fantastic option for his future, so he wants to go to Manchester United. But it also depends on Everton.

“We have to see if Everton will change the conditions of the deal, because for £70m, United are not going for Branthwaite. So, it has to be something different in terms of the package and we will see what happens.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Everton were to drop their asking price to around £40m-£50m, I still do not see Tottenham getting involved in the race for Branthwaite.

I also do not think the 21-year-old would be particularly keen on a move to Spurs as he would know that he will not be a regular starter at the club.
