Ange Postecoglou reveals that he finds it very ‘exciting’ to see so many young players lighting the European Championships up, regardless of their age.

The group stages are not even finished yet and we have already been treated to goals and excitement galore at Euro 24, with a number of young players grabbing the headlines.

Jude Bellingham has quickly become England’s main midfield maestro, Jamal Musiala has perhaps been the player of the tournament for Germany so far, and Lamine Yamal has been juggling Man of the Match performances for Spain with his school homework.

Tottenham Hotspur have their own talented pool of exciting starlets to work with next season, with the Spurs U21 side lifting the Premier League 2 trophy last time out.

Ange Postecoglou’s plans for his Spurs starlets

When asked what he has enjoyed the most at Euro 24 so far, Postecoglou told the ITV punditry team (22/06/24 – as relayed by The Daily Mail): “I just love the fearlessness of throwing young players in, they’ve already made an impact.

“We sometimes, even us managers, kind of want to wrap them in cotton wool. But 21-year-olds, 16-year-olds making an impact straight away, I think that’s so exciting.”

Postecoglou handed minutes to the likes of Mikey Moore and Jamie Donley last season in the Premier League and his comments this week perhaps suggest that Tottenham starlets are in line for more game time if they impress, regardless of age.

With Spurs in four competitions next season, I expect youngsters to get plenty of minutes.

Alfie Devine, Ash Phillips, Dane Scarlett, Will Lankshear, Jamie Donley, Tyrese Hall, Mikey Moore – it all depends on who goes out on loan and who stays put.
