Harry Kane reveals one Spurs star was ‘miles’ fitter than everyone else last season

Harry Kane has revealed that Dejan Kulusevski was comfortably better than every other player in the Tottenham squad when it came to fitness tests.

Many Spurs fans will feel that Kulusevski has underachieved over the past two seasons and that a player of his quality should be delivering better numbers in the final third.

The winger has not quite been able to live up to the promise he showed in his first six months in North London after his switch in January of 2021, but that is not to say that he has not been a crucial player for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Perhaps one of the Swede’s best attributes is his engine, with the winger working tirelessly both on and off the ball and often covering more distance than any other player on the pitch.

Last season, the 24-year-old ran 13km in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, the most by any one player in a single game across the division.

Harry Kane knows Kulusevski is extremely fit

Kane took part in ESPN’s ball knowledge test segment where he was asked who covered the most distance across the Premier League.

When the Bayern Munich star was told that it was a Spurs player, he said: “I’m going by who was the fittest at Tottenham, to be fair,” before writing down Kulusevski’s name.

When Kane was informed that he had the right answer, the former Tottenham man said: “When I was there, we did some running tests in pre-season and he was, by far, the best, so that’s why I’ve gone with him. Just the tests we do, he was miles ahead of everyone.”

Kulusevski is not the profile of winger that Ange usually uses, with the Australian clearly having a preference for direct and pacy wide-men with a low centre of gravity, who tend to take on their man.

However, the reason the Tottenham head coach likes Kulusevski is because of his running power and engine, which makes him one of the best pressers in the Spurs side.
