‘Next season will be so much better’ – Heung-min Son sends brave promise to Spurs fans

Son Heung-min has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur have plenty of room for improvement but is confident that the side will be much improved next season.

Ange Postecoglou’s spell at Spurs could not have begun any better and some Spurs fans might have even dreamed of a potential title tilt after the first few months of the campaign – such was the enterprise and attacking intent with which the Lilywhites were playing.

However, the Australian soon found out just why the Premier League is the most challenging division in world football, with teams appearing to have worked out some of the weaknesses in his system during the second half of the campaign.

In the end, Tottenham limped over the finish line to fifth place, missing out on Champions League football.

Heung-min Son promises Spurs will get better

Son admitted that the buck ultimately stops with the players and that they have to learn from some of the mistakes they made recently, but the 31-year-old was quite optimistic about what the future holds.

The Tottenham captain told ESPN: “We’ve been talking about this quite a lot, after [Ange’s] first season and obviously, we could do so much better.

“We see that but I think we look forward. [The season is] gone and we should learn that there’s so much room for improvement. Next season will be so much better and the players will take responsibility for being [able to] step up and be disciplined.

“Where we finish, it’s because of us. Not anyone else. So we need to think about it and for next season, we can’t make the same mistakes.”

The one thing that is quite evident from all the interviews that the Spurs players have given the last few weeks is that despite the team’s struggles at the end of the campaign, the squad fully believes that Ange’s methods will bring success to the club over the long term.
